Veterans Administration (VA) facilities be designated as voter registration offices: LWV of Virginia has joined the LWVUS and other organizations in a national effort to urge that Veterans Administration (VA) facilities be designated as voter registration offices under the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA). The designation decision is made by the chief election official in each state (usually the Secretary of State) but must receive the approval of the VA. Once designated, an office must provide an array of voter registration services. Read the Letter
League of Women Voters of Virginia Marks Anniversary of the 19th Amendment: This August 26 marks the 88th anniversary of the day that the U.S. Constitution was amended to grant women the right to vote. The nonpartisan League of Women Voters, formed when women were first granted the right to vote, will mark this occasion with reflections on how far we have come as well as optimism that this year will bring even more Americans into the democratic process. League adopts resolution urging the Speaker and members of the House of Delegates to retract rules: The League adopted this resolution (read the full text) to urge the Speaker and members of the House of Delegates to retract rules that permit House subcommittees to take final action on legislation. If this appeal fails, the League will seek legislative sponsors to require that all subcommittee votes be recorded by the clerk and posted on the Legislative Information System in the same manner as provided for full House committee votes.
